Design and construction services for a transit oriented commercial redevelopment located in the Culver City, California. The site concept was conceived around the historical idea of ‘The Platform’ of a train station because of its adjacency to the newly constructed light rail stop. The exterior design manifested this idea by studying the historical significance and function of the train station itself, the platform specifically. Through this research, the Artifex10 team utilized elements and emotion to create spaces of interest, gathering, waiting and relaxing, all while respecting the functional needs the retail spaces such as store front exposure and adequate access and circulation. In an effort to drive maximum pedestrian traffic through the site, the team created ‘transformable’ spaces to provide various outdoor programmed events such as lounge areas, farmers markets, art shows and fashion shows.
